On the afternoon of Feb. 26, a Chinese-foreign cultural exchange event themed on "Our Festival: Lantern Festival" was held at Wenzhou Overseas Media Center (The International Communication & Social Media Influencer Center of Wenzhou City). This event was jointly hosted by the Wenzhou Information Office and Wenzhou Cyberspace Administration, and organized by Wenzhou Overseas Media Center, the Information Office of Lucheng District Government (Lucheng Cyberspace Administration), Lucheng District Overseas Chinese Federation and Lucheng “Rong” Media Center, and co-organized by Binjiang Street Yuanhong Cultural Homeland.
The guests participating in this cultural exchange event included international friends from more than 10 countries as the United States, South Africa, Mauritius, Zimbabwe, and Pakistan, among whom were foreign teachers from Wenzhou-Kean University, foreign anchors of Wenzhou Overseas Communication Center (The International Communication & Social Media Influencer Center of Wenzhou City) , representatives of international volunteers, international students, etc., as well as Wenzhou’s folklore expert Zhu Ming, and representatives of Wenzhou overseas communicators from Spain, Portugal, the United States, Russia, Romania and other countries.
The "Our Festival: Lantern Festival" event was opened with the African dance performed by African youths. Kelvin, who participated in the performance, said that he and his companions have always been desired to participate in the international cultural exchange events organized by Wenzhou Overseas Media Center. This time, after seeing the news of this event published on "Wenzhou daily", he immediately took the initiative to sign up, then rehearsed the dance several times with his companions. The staff from Hongyuan Cultural Homeland in Binjiang Street, Lucheng District, came to the scene early to carefully make the Lantern Festival decorations and prepared more than 60 lantern riddles. During the event, folklore expert Zhu Ming explained the customs of the Lantern Festival, and the staff of Wenzhou Overseas Media Center also played the original video which was special produced for celebrating the Lantern Festival. The splendid programs were unanimously praised by foreigners and overseas communicators.
During the Spring Festival, in addition to offline cultural exchange events between China and foreign countries, Wenzhou Overseas Media Center also invited foreign anchors to participate in the video-shooting of the New Year series of activities titled "Handshake with the World·Listen to the Voices of Wenzhou" for experiencing the cultural charm of Wenzhou from their perspectives, and feeling the strong happiness of Wenzhou. Those bilingual videos have been successively launched on more than 10 domestic and overseas media platforms including "Overseas Release", European "Chinese Headlines", and "IN ZHEJIANG"s, etc.
