Rice sculpture, also known as powder sculpture, uses cooked rice balls as raw material to make all kinds of people figures, dragons, phoenixes, birds and flowers, and beasts by kneading, pinching, squeezing, carving, and making up the rice balls. Rice sculpture is a kind of comprehensive traditional folk art that has integrated sculpture, opera, paper pasting, paper cutting, calligraphy, and painting skills.

Wenzhou rice sculpture, enjoying a very long history, is a wonder of Wenzhou folk art. It is one of the Wenzhou customs to make rice sculptures during festivals, weddings, funerals, or birthday celebrations. It is said that this tradition took shape as early as in the Song Dynasties. After thousands of years of inheritance, rice sculpture technology and process has been increasingly improved and is honored as one of the "two kinds superb food art" together with the "flour sculpture" in north China.
