Originated in the Ming Dynasty, Wenzhou lullabies are still sung today, representing profound historic significance. Made in Wenzhou dialect, Wenzhou lullabies produce beautiful rhymes and tell the right ways of doing things in life. Often made up of six-character or seven-character lines, Wenzhou lullabies are charactered of simple language and short sentences. They are lively to sing and are highly catchy and rhythmic. Spreading far and long, Wenzhou lullabies are very educational and interesting. The singing of Wenzhou lullabies is an effective way of teaching moral to children and one of the best ways to learn Wenzhou local dialect.

Wenzhou famous traditional lullabies include Jingle Bells, Eating Wonton, Bird Riddles, Twelve Months, The First Day of the Year and so on. Among these, Jingle Bells and Bird Riddles have been included in the “Ballad Collections of Asia Pacific Regions” by the UNESCO Asian Cultural Center. Jingle Bells is also the theme song of the TV serial Legend of Entrepreneurship and Bird Riddles, after rework, is also used as the theme song for the movie Ashes to Ashes.
