In this video, the British anchor Alex visited an old Dengzhan cake shop that has been open for more than 20 years. It’s located at No. 2 Gulou Street, Lucheng District, Wenzhou.
Dengzhan cake (deep-fried white radish cake) is one of the top 10 famous snacks in Wenzhou. It has a long history and can be traced back to the end of Yuan Dynasty and the beginning of Ming Dynasty (around the 1460s). Because its shape resembles the ancient oblate oil lamp, it get the name "Dengzhan Cake".
Generally, it is made by grinding rice and soybeans into thick paste, adding flour, wrapping shredded radish, eggs, meat as fillings, and deep-frying.
The Dengzhan Cake tastes best when it is just taken out of the oil pot. So crispy and crunchy, it tastes tender and smooth when you take a bite on it. Your month is inundated with egg scent. How delicious it is.
