Wenzhou To Be Upgraded To A City With Tens Of Millions Of Resident Population!

A few days ago, Wenzhou Municipality issued the "Several Opinions on Upgrading Wenzhou to a City with Tens of Millions of Resident Population" (referred as “Opinions” in below), aiming to accelerate the realization of moderate increase of population scale, optimization of demographic structure and improvement of population quality, and further facilitate the coordinated development between Wenzhou's population and its economy, society, resources and environment.

According to the “Opinions”,

by the end of 2025

The population scale 

The population scale will increase moderately and the net population inflow will be maintained. Wenzhou's permanent population will reach 10 million, the registered population will increase to 8.8 million and the number of employees will get to 5.8 million.

The population distribution

The population distribution will become more reasonable with the urban permanent population reaching 4.5 million and the rate of population urbanization increasing to 72%.

The demographic structure

The demographic structure will be effectively optimized. The proportion of young people will continue to rise, the proportion of manufacturing employees will reach 50%, and the number of talents engaged in "5+5" industries will increase significantly.

The population quality

The population quality will improve notably. Wenzhou's total brainpower resources will reach 2.2 million, the proportion of the main working-age population with higher education will increase to 25%, and the proportion of highly skilled talents in skilled labor will get to 30%. The internationalization level of talent development will achieve a noticeable improvement.
