Dragon is the totem of Chinese culture, and the dragon boat is a distinctive symbol of Dragon Boat Festival. "Wenzhou, a famous dragon boat city, and Copenhagen, a capital of fairy tales, are closely linked through the dragon boat. In this episode of "City to City"series videos, Bingwa Lebohang Anesu, a Zimbabwean anchor of "Hai’Ou Community", together with overseas Chinese from Copenhagen, Denmark, takes us to appreciate the cultural dynamics of dragon boat culture in two different cities: Wenzhou and Copenhagen.


Wenzhou Dragon Boat Museum showcases the long history of dragon boat culture in all aspects, from the origin to the types of dragon boats. Bingwa Lebohang Anesu comes here to learn about the origin of dragon boat racing, marveling at the craftsmanship of the "jewellery dragon".
Dragon boat racing is now practised in more than 85 countries and regions on all continents. Since 2018, Wenzhou Overseas Media Center (Daka China·Hai’Ou Community) has set up overseas dragon boat bases in Barcelona, Rome, Paris and Copenhagen. During this year's Dragon Boat Festival, each dragon boat base has carried out cultural exchange activities themed in dragon boats. In this episode, the overseas Chinese, who are far away in Denmark, actively organized and participated in the dragon boat race on June 18, making Chinese dragon boats raise the waves at Copenhagen’s harbour.
