Wenzhou is a heavy history book.

  Wenzhou has a history of more than 2,200 years. It is the homeland of the Dong’ou Kingdom, the birthplace of Chinese landscape poetry, the hometown of Chinese Southern Opera, and the cradle of Chinese mathematicians.

There are many museums quietly standing in this city. You can look through the thousands years’ history in those museums, as well as the former residences of celebrities which are hidden in the hutongs and alleys and are carrying the cultural blood of Wenzhou.

Wenzhou Museum

温州博物馆

  The Wenzhou Museum is a comprehensive local museum. Inspired by the grotesque peaks and peculiar hills of Yandang Mountain, the architectural design pursues the artistic charms of the magnificence and simpleness. 

  The building area of this museum is about 26,000 square meters, and the total area of the exhibition area is 12,000 square meters. The 2,100-square-meter historical pavilion displays the 5,000-year history of Wenzhou people. There are also five special exhibitions such as painting and calligraphy hall, ceramics hall, nature hall, craftwork hall and Wang Weixin copperplate etching showroom.

  This museum has more than 20,000 pieces of cultural relics, including ceramics, bronze wares, painted sculptures, brick carvings, lacquer wares, paintings and other 20 categories, especially is characterized by ceramics, painted sculptures, paintings and calligraphy.
