Wenzhou is a heavy history book.

  Wenzhou has a history of more than 2,200 years. It is the homeland of the Dong’ou Kingdom, the birthplace of Chinese landscape poetry, the hometown of Chinese Southern Opera, and the cradle of Chinese mathematicians.

There are many museums quietly standing in this city. You can look through the thousands years’ history in those museums, as well as the former residences of celebrities which are hidden in the hutongs and alleys and are carrying the cultural blood of Wenzhou.

Wenzhou Museum

温州博物馆

  The Wenzhou Museum is a comprehensive local museum. Inspired by the grotesque peaks and peculiar hills of Yandang Mountain, the architectural design pursues the artistic charms of the magnificence and simpleness. 

  The building area of this museum is about 26,000 square meters, and the total area of the exhibition area is 12,000 square meters. The 2,100-square-meter historical pavilion displays the 5,000-year history of Wenzhou people. There are also five special exhibitions such as painting and calligraphy hall, ceramics hall, nature hall, craftwork hall and Wang Weixin copperplate etching showroom.

  This museum has more than 20,000 pieces of cultural relics, including ceramics, bronze wares, painted sculptures, brick carvings, lacquer wares, paintings and other 20 categories, especially is characterized by ceramics, painted sculptures, paintings and calligraphy.

Wenzhou Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum

温州非物质文化遗产馆

  The Wenzhou Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum is currently the largest Intangible Cultural Heritage museum in Zhejiang province. Many “treasures” of Wenzhou which were scattered among the civilian population get displayed here.

  The museum covers an area of 8,000 square meters. It has a prefectural (municipal, district) sub-exhibition hall, a special venue, a street of hundred craftwork, and an interactive area. It uses various forms like material objects, texts, images and multimedia to present the colorfulness of Wenzhou's intangible cultural heritage. It is an important window for the cultural exchanges of Wenzhou.

Wenzhou Times Art Museum

  The Times Art Museum is located in Bailuzhou Park, Nantang, Lucheng District, Wenzhou. It is a private comprehensive modern art museum.

  The Times Art Museum is dedicated to "recording the times with folk stance". It focuses on the status quo of contemporary art in a professional and inclusive manner, explores and studies the development and possibilities of art with an independent perspective, presents the diversity of  current society and art through various artistic interactions and exhibitions, tries its best to provide an open art display and learning platform to the public for promoting the integration of art and life, art and fashion, and encouraging knowledge production.

The Hao Art Museum

昊美术馆

  With a total area of 2,500 square meters, the Hao Art Museum consists of two main exhibition halls, the HOW Store, the photographic art cafe and the garden. At the same time, HOW Store brings together many international first-line design brands such as Seletti, Alessi, Slamp and Flos to create a top design art store. In addition, the Hao Art Museum introduces a new photographic art coffee and is dedicated to bringing images into life and providing limited photographic works and delicious coffee to people.

  The Hao Art Museum is opened until 22 o'clock in the evening. It’s the first night art museum in Zhejiang Province, allowing more people to have the opportunity to come to the art gallery to enjoy the exhibition on the working day. The Hao Art Museum will continue to present abundant public education and outdoor art projects to the public, leading a new life style which integrates art, design and technology.
