On May 13, the Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism of the State Council held a press conference on the normalization of the prevention and control upon the COVID-19 outbreak.
Shi Xiaoming, director of the Environmental Institute of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said that cinemas and theaters in middle-risk and high-risk areas should be in deference to local regulations and suspend business. Cinemas and theaters in low-risk areas can be reopened.

Cinemas and theaters in low-risk areas must make fully preparations as follows before they are reopened:

1. Establish an online ticket booking & purchase channel. The non-contact ticket purchase methods of scanning QR code shall be adopted on site. Customers shall be recommended to adopt these methods. And a one-meter-away line should be installed at the cash register or in the waiting area.

2. Take measures to limit the customer flow and keep them sit down dispersedly. As far as possible, every seat should be kept at least one-meter away from others’. The entrance of cinema and theater should be equipped with temperature measurement equipment. And each one must carry out a temperature measurement before he enters.

Guidelines of COVID-19 prevention and control for the reopening of performance venues as cinema, theaters:

In the case of fully implementation of prevention and control measures, with the consent of the local party committee and government, commercial performances are allowed be held in low-risk areas. However, the medium and large-scale commercial performances are suspended. And the recently-approved foreign-related or Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan-related commercial performances are also suspended (Except those whose cast members are already in the country). In medium-risk and high-risk areas, the commercial performances are not allowed to hold temporarily.

1. The number of spectators in cinemas, theaters and other performance venues should not exceed 30% of the number of theater seats. They should be seated at intervals to maintain a distance of more than 1 meter. Every actor should keep a certain distance away from another.

2. A comprehensive performance venue with multiple theaters can only open one theater at a time.
