The enthusiasm of Chinese people for eating watermelon is so strong that they accidentally gain an amazing "achievement".

Compared with other fruits that the public likes, the price of watermelon is the most down-to-earth! Due to the wide distribution and large production of domestic watermelon producing areas, we can heartily enjoy the joy of eating watermelon in the summer.

In contrast, our neighbors Japan and South Korea are not so lucky. It takes more than 100 yuan to buy a watermelon in South Korea. And in Japan, eating melon is a luxury. A piece of watermelon is more than 300 yen to more than 500 yen, which is equivalent to about 40 yuan.

The watermelon that has not been knocked is not complete!

Though Chinese people consume watermelon per capita one hundred Jin (pound) per year, for the taste of watermelon, we are actually very picky.

It is a very common process to knock a watermelon before you decide to buy it. Knock it and listen to the sound, then identify which one is more sweet. There are many tips and model courses on the Internet.

However, pls don’t knock the watermelon at abroad, or you perhaps get hit. A image that an Italian supermarket posted online in 2016 made the “Knocking Watermelon” go viral.

The supermarket made a board-card at the time and wrote:

"Dear customers, please don't knock watermelon again, they really won't respond!!!"

In this regard, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) published a very humorous opinion: Knocking watermelon is getting popular all over the world!

There are no absolute guarantees about what to do when it comes to choosing fruit. But at the risk of causing an international diplomatic incident we would suggest there some common ground about what to look for to choose the perfect watermelon.

1. Feel the weight of the melon. The heavier the better.
