◎ Prime Time Interrupted by Injury

Lin Wanpeng earned the nickname“ Iceberg” for his typically calm and reserved demeanor off the court. Yet, once he steps onto the basketball court, this composure transforms into steady prowess, shining on both offense and defense.

His journey with basketball began in his third year of junior high school. Training conditions were exceptionally tough back then. Practicing on concrete courts was his routine, with only a solitary light overhead illuminating the sweating teenager at night. It was in these humble surroundings that the pure allure of basketball took hold.

Before 2023, Lin was a“ Great Dominant” in Wenzhou’s basketball circles — a player capable of 360-degree dunking and a consistent MVP in major tournaments. After starting his career, he became a PE teacher at Wenzhou Vocational Secondary School, leading the school’s basketball team to numerous victories. Current members of Team Wenzhou, Chen Buwei and Yan Mouzhi, were once his students.

However, during a game in 2023, Lin suffered the most severe injury of his career — a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee — during a drive to the basket.

The post-surgery ligament reconstruction and rehabilitation process was agonizing and arduous. For two full years, he battled the injury with limited progress, forced to stay away from the court. He left no visual record of that period of injury and recovery, as it felt like walking alone in endless darkness. Yet, a faint light always shone at the end of that darkness, reminiscent of the solitary light from his youth.
