"12 Months"a Wenzhou local nursery rhyme,  is familiar to every Wenzhou people. You can even sing it anytime as long as you hear its melody. However, have you ever seen the "12 Months" carved on stone?


On Oct. 15,  Mr. Chen Shunde, the Chinese master of stone-carving,  shared his 50-year stone-carving storywithBrett, a foreign anchor  from South Africa, in the "Meeting·Wuma" Livestreaming Studio located on Wuma Street, Lucheng District.


Wenzhou stone-carving has a long history. It is mainly made of high-quality pyrophyllite, having the characteristic of rich colorsstrange patternswide varietieswaxy luster and slipperiness.


Stone-carving artists are proficient in using different colors and shapes of stones and applying traditional techniques such as hollowing-outembossment  to carve out landscapes, figures, flowers, and animals. 


A small number of their works are exclusively for appreciation. Most of them are crafts and daily necessities which are widely used in our daily routines  as vasestable lampscigarette holdersink cartridgesfan pendants etc.,


Displaying superb skills and strong local characteristics, Wenzhou stone-carving is deeply loved by domestic and foreign people.



In the live broadcast, Mr. Chen told the story  how he came into contact with and fell in love with stone-carvings as a child.


Mr. Chen shared his feeling with the viewers in the livestreaming stdio: "The reason for carving the nursery rhyme "12 Months" is that I want to record the Wenzhou traditional nursery rhymes in kind and keep them forever. Stone-carving is a fascinating thing that really intoxicates me. I have been engaging it  for fifty years, and will continue to do it in the future.
