Tangyuan

"I can smell the fragrance all the way away."Alex, a British anchor and Zhang Ci, a lecturer from the School of Foreign Languages of Wenzhou University, talked with each other in a jovial mood and  expectantly opened the door of the Xianqian Tangyuan Store in the urban area of Wenzhou. This is a scene happened during this episode’s video-filming.

Tangyuan is one of the representatives of traditional Chinese snacks. At the same time, it is also a representative delicacy that southerners must eat in the traditional Chinese Lantern Festival. Eating tangyuan symbolizes the happiness and reunion of a Chinese family.

And Wenzhou Xianqian Tangyuan Store started in the Qing Dynasty(1901). It has a history of more than 100 years, and it was the first tangyuan store in Wenzhou. Their sweet tangyuan was recognized as a "Chinese Famous Snack".

Ms. Zhang Ci recalled that when she was a child, her father would often take her little hand, stroll all the way here, and order her a bowl of salty tangyuan

Returning to this Tangyuan store after so many years, and making Tangyuan by her own hands with foreign friend Alex, not only is it fun, but also brings back many warm memories from her childhood.

During the filming, there was also a small interlude. The film crew spoke to Alex of the "dispute between sweet and salty Tangyuan"which always aroused heated discussions among netizens in the north and south. Alex showed great interest in this topic.

So in this video, Alex also became a "reviewer". He first tasted the sweet tangyuan that are beloved by southerners. According to Alex, since he came to Wenzhou, all he had eaten at family dinners and friends gatherings were indeed sweet tangyuan.

After that, Alex also for the first time tasted the salty Tangyuan which is more preferred by northerners, and he was really captured by this flavor.
