The Peculiar Stone Museum and The Ore Museum in Fanshan Town 

Located in the southwest mountain areas of Cangnan County, Fanshan Town is a mining town with a long history in the south Zhejiang. The history of mining alums in Fanshan Town can date back to the Song Dynasty (960-1279). So far, the explored alums reserves in Fanshan Town take up 60% of the world and 80% of China. Fanshan Town is known as the “Alum Capital of the World”as well as a birthplace for the mine shafts in Cangnan, which is called “Shaft Township of China”.

The alum business, with a more than 600-year history, is a traditional industry of Fanshan Town. The well-preserved ancient mining area sites and the dozens of miles of mine caverns formed by the excavation, not only preserve the original ancient mining area and abundant human landscapes, but are the first industrial active sites which are still producing the alums in the provincial-level protected units of cultural relics.
