Recently, the official website of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development officially announced the list of the fifth batch of Chinese traditional villages. A total of 2,666 nationwide villages (including 235 in Zhejiang) are included in the fifth batch of Chinese traditional villages.
The names of the 9 villages in Wenzhou on the list are as follows -
Ouhai District
Shuiduikeng Village, Zeya Town
Shuiduikeng Village is listed in the third batch of historical and cultural protection ancient villages in Zhejiang Province and the second batch of Chinese landscape village.
The houses built by stones are designed to be protected from the mountain. They are mostly built in the middle of the Qing Dynasty. With the diverse architectural forms, they have a typically local-country architectural style of Zhi Mountain, Zeya Town.
Yueqing City
Huangtandong Village, Lecheng Street
Huangtandong Ancient Village is located in Chengbei Community, Lecheng Street, Yueqing City, Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province. Built in the period of Emperor Baoqing of the Song Dynasty, it has a history of more than 800 years. The reason that the village was named “Huangtandong” was that there were Huangtan woods on the hillside and a cave on the cliff above the Huangtan woods. Hence the cave was called “Huangtandong” as well as the village was named “Huangtandong” Village by local people
Yongjia County
Huangnan Linkeng Village, Yantan Town
Huangnan Linkeng Village is located in the north of Shang’ao Village, Yantan Town. It was built in the Ming Dynasty and has won the honorary title of Chinese landscape village. It is a well-preserved mountainous village with harmonious compatibility of nature and architecture.
Yanlong Village, Yantan Town
Located in the northern mountainous area of Yantan Town, Yanlong Village was built in period of Emperor Chunyou of the Song Dynasty (1241-1252). It was the place where the House Ji inhabited and reproduced. It has won the honorary titles of provincial-level historical and cultural village and Chinese landscape village. The site-selection and layout of this village are featuring the concept of Feng Shui.
Taishun County
Shangjiaoyang Village, Luoyang Town
The Shangjiaoyang Ancient Village was the place where the House Zeng inhabited and lived. The ancestral home of House Zeng was in Tongan, Fujian Province. They migrated here during the period of Emperor Jiaqing of the Qing Dynasty. What is commendable is that the ancient buildings and ancient villages left by the House Zeng’s ancestors have been preserved relatively intact.
Taibian Village, Siqian Town
Taibian Village is located in the northwest of Siqian Town (the habitation community of She Ethnicity). The ancient village which is located independently in the north of Taibian Village is a provincial-level traditional village. It has a history of more than 300 years and has attracted many crews to shoot movie and TV dramas here.
Dongyang Village, Xiaocun Town
Dongyang Village is encircled by thousand-meters mountains. The existing four ancient residential buildings there are: Xincuoxia Ancient Residential Building Complex, Xicun Ancient Residential Building Complex, Xiaolingjiao Ancient Residential Building Complex, and Menlouwai Ancient Residence Building Complex.
Cangnan County
Longmen Village, Mazhan Town
Longmen Village, Mazhan Town, Cangnan County, located at the southernmost tip of Zhejiang Province, is adjacent to Fujian Province. It was included in the Zhejiang Intangible Cultural Heritage Tourist Scenic Area (Folklore Cultural Tourism Village) in 2012. It was rated as Zhejiang Provincial Historical and Cultural Village in 2016. It was included in the list of provincial-level traditional villages in September 2017.
Dingbutou Village, Qiaodun Town
Dingbutou Village, Qiaodun Town is 23 kilometers away from Cangnan County. It was called “Ding’Aotou” in ancient times and is an ecological tourism village now integrating ancient villages, green mountains and clean waters.
