Listening to a section of old Changci on Huagai Mountain
Wenzhou Guci, commonly known as Changci, originated from Ruian and developed from folk melodies in the Ming Dynasty. It largely retained the characteristics of the South Opera, especially the tunes of the Wenzhou Luantan and the traditional repertoire. From the 1930s to the 1960s, it was once the golden age of Wenzhou Guci and the sounds of stringed instrument were prevailed in the urban and rural areas. Let us stay on the Huagai Mountain, calm down, sit in the pavilion, under the shade of the trees, and listen to a section of old Changci. Within such a lyrical atmosphere, we can feel the charms of intangible heritage.

Taking deep breaths in Zhongshan Park
After strolling down from Huagai Mountain and passing through the statue of “workers, peasants and soldiers” built in the 1950s, the opposite of the statue is Zhongshan Park - the oldest park in Wenzhou. Built in 1930, the park which was named after the revolutionary pioneer Sun Yat-sen has gone through nearly a hundred years of history, recording the warm and beautiful memories of generations of Wenzhou people.

Visiting the Wuma - Chan Street
Walk slowly along the park road then arrive at Wuma Street. This millennial ancient street that began in the Eastern Jin Dynasty is such an area with the most concentrated business atmosphere in Wenzhou. Wenzhou’s first department store and first cinema were located here. After the renovation of the "Two Stripes & Three Sections" project in 2018, Wuma Street, which has undergone years of ups and downs, took back those time-honored shops and those stores with the famous reputations. Wuweihe and Laoxiangshan brought back memories for the neighborhood. And the newly opened fashion shops like the Cloud bookstore and others have added several fashionable spots for young people.
