Young and fueled by passion, Ye Guanghui has earned the title“ Champion of Taishun.” Born in 2001 in Huangqiao Village, Siqian She Ethnic Town, Taishun County, Wenzhou, he is now one of the most dependable scorers on Team Wenzhou in the ZJBA. To his teammates, he is a trusted warrior; to his opponents, a formidable defensive presence. With relentless energy and sheer grit, this young man has carved out countless“ moments of glory” on the basketball court.

◎ Boundless Energy Meets the Court

Ye spent his childhood in Taishun, where he was known from an early age for his boundless energy and exceptional stamina. Fond of running and jumping, he trained in track and field, and played table tennis for two years—experiences that laid a solid physical foundation for his later athletic career.

During the summer breaks of his middle school years, concerned that Ye might become addicted to mobile games, his father would often take him to play basketball on a rundown court near their home. Those hours spent exercising alongside his father became Ye’s warmest childhood memories and marked his ffrst introduction to the sport of basketball.

During his high school years, Ye moved with his parents to Fuyang, Hangzhou, a city steeped in basketball culture, where he was able to further develop his talent. Taking on the role of captain of his school’s inaugural basketball team, he traveled frequently with his coach to regional competitions, steadily building match experience.

After graduating from high school, he enrolled at Zhejiang Yuying College of Vocational Technology and joined the college basketball team. He quickly made his mark: his team won the basketball championship at the University Sports Games of Zhejiang Province, captured the Southeast Division title in the CUBA Third-tier League, and finished as runners-up in the national finals.

Fresh out of college, Ye stayed in Hangzhou and stepped into a conventional nine-to-five job, but he soon realized it wasn’t for him. Determined to pursue a career in basketball, he drew on the connections he had built during his years in the sport and founded his own basketball training center, focusing on one-on-one coaching for adults.

“The working hours in basketball training are relatively flexible, which allows me to keep my evenings free for games,” Ye said. For him, being on the court was a top priority. During that period, while competing in his own right, he also represented his hometown of Taishun, winning numerous honors for it.

The story that followed quickly became well known. During the group stage of the ZJBA, when Taishun faced Yongjia, Ye poured in 38 points in a single game, setting a new single-game record for the Wenzhou division. By the end of the group stage, his total of 108 points secured him the title of the division’s top scorer.

◎“ Coach, I’ll take on their toughest player”

But when Ye Guanghui first joined Team Wenzhou, he struggled to find his place on a roster brimming with talent — much like a top student entering a class of prodigies and realizing he was just one among many.

In the first two games of the city tournament, his eagerness to impress backfired. Unfamiliar with the team’s tactics, he struggled to perform and was relegated to sit on the bench, facing doubt from teammates and spectators alike.

Unwilling to sit on the sidelines, Ye spent several days reflecting before deciding to turn things around. A few days ahead of the third game, he approached head coach Lou Jianqiang and said with determination,“ Just give me a chance to play, and I’ll take on their toughest player — please trust me!”

Coach Lou was relieved — he desperately needed someone on the team willing to do the gritty work.

From that point on, Ye played tirelessly, without worrying about personal gain. In every game, he took on the challenge of guarding the opposing team’s top scorer while still putting up 20 points or more on offense. Time and again, he delivered what came to be known as his“ moments of glory,” reclaiming control of the game and asserting himself as a rising star.

The ZJBA wasn’t the highest level of competition Ye had ever played in, but it was undoubtedly the one that drew the most attention. He thrived on the roar of the crowd. Hearing fans chant his name in unison, he felt as if“ every pore in his body was bursting with energy”.

On the court, Ye became a“ physical powerhouse” feared by opponents and a true“ rising star” in the hearts of his teammates and fans.

As the ZJBA progressed, Team Wenzhou kept racking up victories, and Ye’s growth was obvious. Fans noted that he had a“ full-court vision”: he prioritized team unity, saw more than just the basket, and could anticipate his teammates’ next moves, ready at any moment to deliver an assist or pull off a steal.

After winning his first MVP, Ye told reporters that his goal was to earn four more. But after claiming a second MVP, his priorities shifted — he cared more about helping his team win, believing that his team’s success was what truly mattered.

From a young player from a small village to a“ city hero” on the ZJBA court, Ye Guanghui’s basketball journey continues. And we have no doubt that his next shining moment is just around the corner.
