Beautiful, stylish, mysterious - this is Sumayyah’s impression on the provincial intangible cultural heritage - Blue Jiaxie. In this episode, Sumayyah, the anchor of the Wenzhou Overseas Media Center, experiences the making of Blue Jiaxie.

Blue Jiaxie, a decent and elegant treasure characterized with white flowers on a blue cloth, has experienced ups and downs in the long river of time. As one of the provincial intangible cultural heritages, Blue Jiaxie dyeing technique is rarely known by people now. It is one of China's traditional 4 printing and dyeing techniques, and the source of woodblock dyeing and printing in China. With a history of thousands of years, it originated in the Qin and Han Dynasties, flourished in the Tang and Song Dynasties. Blue Jiaxie used to be a must-have wedding supply for the local people in southern Zhejiang. It uses indigo as dyestuff, Its main patterns are the dramatic personae of Kun Opera, Luantan, Peking Opera, and other operas that were popular from the late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China, supplemented by the auspicious patterns such as flowers, birds, insects and beasts. Of all kinds of the Chinese traditional dyed fabrics, Blue Jiaxie has become the extant only one that takes traditional dramatic personae as main patterns.

Wang Hesheng, an inheritor of the provincial intangible cultural heritage - Blue Jiaxie dyeing technique. In the Blue Jiaxie Museum in Rui’an, Wenzhou, Sumayyah experienced the making of Blue Jiaxie works with her own hands under Mr Wang's guidance. Mr. Wang said that his current work focuses on that convert the monochromatic Blue Jiaxie to colorful one, blend the traditional technique into people’s fashion life, and transform the static Blue Jiaxie into dynamic fashion art.
